Tucked away in a quiet corner of Abermeurig, Coed Y Dderwen Farm plays host to our herd of pedigree, free range pigs, chickens, ducks and a handful of mismatched sheep.
Meet the herd - We have 7 resident sows and 2 boars
Henry. Our stud boar Blaenuwaun Rufus 50 registered with the Gloucestershire old spot herd book, Henry has been the daddy of all our porkers. He is now nearly 8 years old and looking towards retirement but he still takes his work very seriously and has just given us a couple of large litters (15 & 17 piglets) just to prove he is still working.
Doris. Unregistered daughter of the late Saddle Pig. Doris prefers the outdoor life, recently spurning her own nice warm arc and farrowing in her home-made nest at the bottom of the field, where she successfully reared 14 piglets.
Emo. Unregistered daughter of the late Saddle Pig and sister to Doris. Named because of her big black eye patches, Emo is a lovely friendly pig, producing large litters. Unlike her sister, Emo prefers the comfort of the pig arc.
Sally. Daughter of Seren. Named after our next door neighbour. (She knows)
Anna. Half Sister to Emo & Doris
Teddy Bear. Named because she is so cute and cuddley!
